On the deep mine tour you will first board the steepest funicular train in the United Kingdom and descend over 500 ft into the hillside. Take a coat or at least something warmer!

When we visited Lechwedd Deep Mine, I made the mistake of not taking a jacket. I would definitely recommend taking a jacket if you’re planning to visit Lechwedd Deep mine as is quite cold down there! I think the tourguide said around 7.5 Degrees celsius and we visited in the summer!

The lower levels of the Slate Mine at Lechwedd are flooded and inaccessible, the tour takes you though some of the upper levels which are not flooded. But you’ll see crystal clear flooded caverns, which in itself is an amazing sight.
